OUR VISION

To cultivate optimal health and lifelong well-being for every UConn student

Our Mission

Student Health and Wellness (SHaW) supports the educational mission of the University and enables student success by fostering the optimal well-being of all UConn students.  We accomplish this by providing the highest quality compassionate care, offering exceptional health and wellness programs, and promoting an environment that reinforces students’ overall health and wellbeing in order to Be Well. Feel Well. and Do Well.

Our Values

Diversity, Health Equity and Inclusion

We dedicate ourselves to learning, valuing diverse experiences, and providing outstanding services to UConn students while appreciating their significant identities such as race, ethnicity, religious affiliation or not, gender identity, level of ability, or other salient identities. We promote social justice throughout UConn and the broader global community.

UConn Student Health and Wellness complies with all applicable federal laws and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression. Read the full non-discrimination notice here.

Patients’ Rights and Responsibilities

As stated as the first tenet of our Patients’ Rights and Responsibilities: We believe you have a right to be treated with respect, consideration and dignity, as well as be free from all forms of abuse and harassment on the basis of any race, color, ethnicity, religious creed, age, sex, marital status, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, genetic information, physical or mental disability (including learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and past or present history of mental illness), veteran’s status, prior conviction of a crime, gender identity or expression, or membership in any other protected classes.

Health Care Representative

A patient has the right to make decisions about the health care they receive. A patient also may designate a health care representative to make health decisions on their behalf if they are unable to do so for themselves. The health care representative may be a parent, a domestic partner or anybody else that understands the patient’s health care wishes.

Patients can find information on Connecticut’s advanced directive laws on Connecticut's Official State Website. Patients holding a properly executed advanced directive may request that it be included in their Student Health and Wellness medical record. In the event of an emergency, Student Health and Wellness will honor the patient’s wishes by conveying those directives to the provider delivering emergency care.
